Quarterstaff Mists
One of the best Quarterstaff builds in Albion Online for solo PvP, especially if you like a playstyle that can kite, brawl, and constantly reposition during fights.

How to play this Quarterstaff build?
is one of my favorite weapons for solo Mists PvP when I want something with excellent mobility, plenty of crowd control, and the ability to stay on top of opponents.
However, there's one important thing I want to explain before getting into the abilities.
This is primarily an Item Power advantage build.
You can definitely win fights against equally geared players, but the setup becomes considerably stronger when you have higher Item Power than your opponent.
We're combining , , and to control our opponent while dealing damage with and normal attacks.
is another important part of the build because it gives us a large attack speed bonus after activating .
And since we're using , those normal attacks also provide some additional healing.
The main idea is pretty straightforward.
Use your mobility to choose when to fight, control your opponent with crowd control, and deal as much damage as possible while and are active.
However, don't make the mistake of using every movement ability immediately.
is extremely mobile, but you can still get caught if everything is on cooldown.
1. Main Abilities
Here's the default ability setup we're using for solo Mists.
| Slot | Ability | Main Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Q | Mobility, knockback, and damage resistance | |
| W | Movement speed and a stun from your next normal attack | |
| E | Damage, mobility, knockup, and temporary immunity | |
| Passive | Health recovery from normal attacks |
Cartwheel (Q)
is probably the ability you'll be using the most.
It allows you to dash toward a targeted location, dealing damage and knocking back enemies you pass through.
This makes it useful for both engaging and escaping.
For example, if someone is trying to run away, you can use to close the distance.
And if you're fighting an opponent who wants to stay close, you can use it to reposition or create some space.
However, there's another important mechanic.
If you take damage while using , you receive increased damage resistance for three seconds.
This can be extremely useful against opponents with predictable attacks.
For example, if you know someone is about to use a dangerous ability, you can time so the incoming damage connects during your dash.
You'll still need to deal with that damage, but the resistance bonus afterward can help you survive the rest of their combination.
Timing Your Cartwheel
A common mistake is using simply because it's available.
Yes, it has a short cooldown, but its defensive potential is also quite valuable.
Against certain opponents, you might want to save it until they commit to an attack.
You can also use to move through your opponent rather than always moving directly toward them.
This can make it harder for them to land their next ability.
However, be careful when using it with .
knocks enemies back, which means you can accidentally push your opponent out of 's range.
Try to position your dash so you can continue dealing damage afterward.
Habo Tip: doesn't require you to hit an enemy to move. That makes it one of your most reliable escape abilities. You can use it to create distance even when there isn't a suitable target nearby.
Important Energy Change
's Energy cost was increased from 5 to 7 in Dragonfire Patch 3.
This might not sound like much, but it adds up when you're using the ability repeatedly during longer fights.
That's another reason why we're using on our helmet.
Try not to waste constantly while traveling, especially when you're expecting PvP.
Stun Run (W)
is our default W ability.
When activated, it increases your movement speed by 30% for up to four seconds.
But the important part is that your first normal attack during stuns the target.
This gives us another way to control our opponent.
For example, if someone is trying to escape, you can activate to catch up with them.
Once you're close enough, land a normal attack to stun them.
You can then follow up with , , or more normal attacks.
However, there's one mechanic you need to understand.
The movement speed bonus ends when you land the empowered normal attack.
So you need to decide whether you want to keep running or use the stun.
If your opponent is still far away, attacking something too early can waste the movement speed you needed to catch them.
Using Stun Run Defensively
isn't only useful for chasing.
You can also use it to create distance from dangerous opponents.
For example, if someone activates a powerful damage ability, you can use to move away.
And if they manage to catch you, the stun from your next normal attack can create another opportunity to escape.
Just remember that you need to land that normal attack.
It's not an automatic stun around your character.
Don't Waste Your Stun
Against certain builds, the stun is much more valuable than the movement speed.
For example, if an opponent relies on an important interruptible channel, you can potentially use to stop it.
But if they have crowd control immunity available, your stun might not work.
Try to pay attention to their defensive abilities before committing.
Vault Leap (E)
is our main engage and one of the strongest abilities in this setup.
It allows you to leap toward a targeted location, dealing area damage when you land.
Enemies caught near the landing position are knocked into the air.
However, the best part is what happens during the leap.
You're immune to damage and crowd control until impact.
This is particularly valuable against opponents who rely on predictable burst combinations.
For example, if someone is about to land their strongest damage ability, you can use to avoid it when timed correctly.
And since the ability also provides mobility, you can reposition at the same time.
Using Vault Leap Offensively
Most of the time, we're using to engage and trigger .
When you activate your E, gives you a temporary attack speed bonus.
This works extremely well with because we want to land as many normal attacks as possible.
also knocks up nearby enemies when you land, creating an opportunity to start attacking while they're under crowd control.
You can then use to extend that control and keep dealing damage.
However, you need to be careful about your timing.
Don't use when your opponent still has several ways to escape.
If they immediately run away, you're losing a large part of 's damage potential.
Sometimes it's better to use and first to force their mobility.
Then use when you're confident you can stay close.
Using Vault Leap Defensively
is also an excellent defensive ability.
You can use it to avoid dangerous attacks or escape when a fight isn't going your way.
For example, against an opponent with a large burst combination, timing correctly can completely avoid the incoming damage during its airborne window.
However, don't use it too early.
If your opponent recognizes what you're doing, they might simply wait until you land before using their main damage ability.
And remember that using defensively can activate .
That means your cape might not be available for your next offensive engage.
Sometimes that's perfectly fine.
Surviving is more important than saving your cape.
Life Leech (Passive)
For our passive, we're using .
This gives us additional healing from normal attacks.
It works particularly well with because the increased attack speed allows us to land more attacks in a short period.
However, there's an important distinction.
only provides healing through your normal attacks.
, , and don't directly trigger your weapon's passive.
That's why normal attacks are such an important part of this build.
Try to attack between your abilities whenever possible.
But don't force yourself to stay in melee range just to recover a little Health.
Against some opponents, avoiding damage is considerably more important.
2. How to Fight With Quarterstaff
The biggest advantage of this build is that you have plenty of ways to control how a fight plays out.
You can approach quickly, knock opponents away, stun them, and use to avoid dangerous attacks.
However, you still need to deal enough damage to finish the fight.
That's where , , and your normal attacks come in.
Basic PvP Rotation
Here's an example of how I would approach a favorable fight.
| Step | Ability | What to Do |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Approach and start dealing damage | |
| 2 | Gain movement speed and prepare your stun | |
| 3 | Deal damage, knock up the target, and activate | |
| 4 | Normal Attack | Use your stun when the target can be controlled |
| 5 | Deal continuous area damage while staying close | |
| 6 | Normal Attacks | Use 's attack speed and |
| 7 | Follow movement or reposition | |
| 8 | Recover Health when necessary |
This isn't a fixed combination that you need to follow every single fight.
For example, sometimes you'll want to use before to get close enough.
Other times, you might want to save until your opponent activates a dangerous ability.
The important thing is understanding what you're trying to accomplish.
Morgana Cape and Vault Leap Combo
This is probably the strongest offensive interaction in the build.
activates when you use your E, giving you a large temporary attack speed bonus.
Since we're using with , we benefit from both the additional damage and more frequent healing opportunities.
However, you don't want to waste that attack speed bonus.
Here's what I recommend.
- Get close enough that you can realistically stay on your opponent.
- Use to engage and activate .
- Land your normal attacks immediately after the knockup.
- Use 's empowered attack to keep the target controlled.
- Activate when you can remain close.
- Continue attacking while the bonuses are active.
The most important part is staying close after your E.
If your opponent escapes immediately, you're losing most of your attack speed bonus.
And since has a long cooldown, you might not get another opportunity to use it during that fight.
Habo Tip: Don't activate simply because your cape is available. Sometimes waiting for your opponent to use their mobility first will give you a much stronger damage window.
Using Electric Field Properly
is another major damage source.
It repeatedly damages enemies around you while active.
This means it works extremely well when you're standing close to an opponent and landing normal attacks.
However, there's a downside.
If your opponent creates distance, stops dealing damage to them.
That's why our crowd control is so valuable.
We can use to stop them briefly and or to follow their movement.
But you also need to be careful with 's knockback.
You don't want to push someone away while is active unless you're using the knockback for a good reason.
When to Activate Electric Field
I generally recommend activating it when your opponent is already committed to staying close.
For example, against a melee brawler who wants to trade damage, can be extremely effective.
But against a ranged player with several movement abilities, activating it too early might waste most of its duration.
Try to force their movement first.
Then use when you know you can actually hit them.
Don't Use All Your Mobility Immediately
Between , , , and , we have excellent mobility.
However, using everything immediately can still get you killed.
For example, if you use and just to approach someone, they might activate their boots and escape.
Now you're left with and to catch them.
And if another player shows up while you're chasing, you might have very few ways to escape.
That's why I recommend using your movement abilities one at a time whenever possible.
You don't always need to catch everyone.
Sometimes letting someone escape is better than risking your set.
3. Equipment and Defensive Abilities
Besides , we're using equipment that gives us additional damage, Energy recovery, and mobility.
| Equipment | Ability | Main Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Energy recovery and a protective shield | ||
| Additional area damage | ||
| Movement speed and shorter cooldowns | ||
| Temporary attack speed and casting speed bonus |
Scholar Cowl
For our helmet, we're using with .
provides a small protective shield while restoring some of our missing Energy.
This works extremely well with because we're constantly using and other abilities.
And with 's Energy cost increased in Dragonfire Patch 3, having additional Energy recovery is even more useful.
However, don't activate when you have full Energy and aren't taking damage.
Try to get value from both parts of the ability.
For example, if you've been fighting for a while and your Energy is getting low, you can use to recover while absorbing some incoming damage.
Alternative: Any Cloth Cowl
You don't specifically need .
Any Cloth Cowl with can work for this setup.
Since we're using a generic helmet ability, feel free to choose the cheapest option.
Just make sure you're using the correct spell and armor passive.
Stalker Jacket
For our chest, we're using with .
This is one of the biggest damage sources in our build.
creates an area around your character that repeatedly damages nearby enemies.
It works extremely well with because we have enough mobility and crowd control to stay close.
For example, you can engage with , stun your opponent, and activate while attacking.
This allows you to deal damage from both your armor and normal attacks at the same time.
However, isn't always the best ability for every matchup.
Against opponents who can easily create distance, you might struggle to get full value.
And against damage reflection, it can become dangerous.
Inferno Shield (Alternative Chest Ability)
is another useful option on .
Instead of dealing damage with , it increases your defenses and reflects part of the incoming damage.
This can be particularly useful against opponents who want to stand close and trade damage.
For example, against a melee build with strong burst, can help you survive while punishing them for continuing to attack.
However, you're giving up a large part of your regular damage.
| Chest Ability | Best Use |
|---|---|
| Default setup for damage, PvE, and aggressive fights | |
| Defensive brawling and dangerous melee matchups |
Personally, I'd keep as the default.
But if you're expecting a difficult matchup where you need more protection, is a perfectly reasonable alternative.
Hunter Shoes
For our boots, we're using .
This gives us additional movement speed while increasing our cooldown rate.
Both effects are useful because we want to keep , , and available as frequently as possible.
The additional movement speed also helps when chasing opponents.
However, there's something important to remember.
is another movement ability that you can waste.
If you activate and immediately, you might not have anything available when your opponent uses their boots afterward.
Try to spread out your mobility.
Alternative: Any Leather Shoes
You don't specifically need .
Any Leather Shoes with can work.
You can choose whichever option is cheapest while keeping the armor passive you want.
This makes the build a little more affordable without changing its main playstyle.
Morgana Cape
is one of the most important parts of this setup.
Its ability activates when you use your E, providing a large temporary bonus to attack speed and casting speed.
This works extremely well with because allows us to engage and knock up opponents.
We can then take advantage of the attack speed bonus to land more normal attacks.
And since we're using , those attacks also provide additional healing.
However, has a long cooldown.
That means you shouldn't expect it to activate every time you use .
Pay attention to whether your cape is actually available before committing to a fight.
If is still on cooldown, you might have considerably less damage than during your previous engagement.
Alternative: Martlock Cape
If you want additional protection, is another option.
It automatically increases your defenses when your Health drops low enough.
This can be useful against opponents with strong burst damage.
However, you're giving up the attack speed bonus from .
And since our build relies heavily on normal attacks, that's a noticeable damage loss.
For the main setup, I recommend keeping .
4. Food and Potions
We're using and Major Healing Potions.
Both are useful, but for different reasons.
| Consumable | Main Purpose |
|---|---|
| Increased damage and shorter cooldowns | |
| Additional Health recovery | |
| (Alternative) | Protection against dangerous burst |
| (Budget Alternative) | Increased damage at a lower cost |
Deadwater Eel Stew
is an excellent food option for .
It increases our damage while also reducing our cooldowns.
Both bonuses are extremely valuable.
We want to use as often as necessary for mobility and damage resistance.
And getting and back sooner gives us more opportunities to control the fight.
The additional damage also works well with our normal attacks and .
Personally, I wouldn't change the food for the main setup.
Major Healing Potion
Healing Potions are our main source of direct healing during fights.
We also have , but that only works when we're landing normal attacks.
Against opponents who are constantly creating distance, we might not get enough healing from our passive.
That's why Healing Potions are so important.
I recommend using one when you've taken enough damage to benefit from the recovery.
Don't wait until you're almost dead.
You want to recover enough Health that you can continue fighting or disengage safely.
Resistance Potion Alternative
Against certain burst builds, Resistance Potions can be useful.
They reduce incoming damage for a short duration.
This can help when you're expecting an opponent to use a dangerous damage combination.
However, you're giving up direct healing.
For general Mists roaming, I'd keep Healing Potions equipped.
5. Matchup Tips
is a flexible weapon, but some opponents are considerably more difficult than others.
And since this is an Item Power advantage setup, I recommend paying attention to your opponent's equipment before deciding whether to engage.
| Opponent | What I Recommend |
|---|---|
| Melee Brawlers | Use when they commit and defensively |
| Ranged Kiters | Save and for chasing |
| Burst Builds | Time to avoid important damage |
| Reflect Builds | Don't attack into active reflection with |
| Healing Builds | Maintain pressure, but avoid unfavorable extended fights |
| Highly Mobile Builds | Force movement abilities before activating |
| Higher IP Opponents | Be careful about direct trades and consider disengaging |
| Lower IP Opponents | Use your mobility and crowd control to maintain pressure |
Against Melee Brawlers
Against melee opponents, becomes particularly valuable.
Since they need to stay close to deal damage, we can get more value from its repeated damage.
However, don't assume that means every melee matchup is easy.
Some builds have significantly better sustain or burst damage than .
Try to use when they're committing to an attack.
If you take damage during the dash, you'll receive additional resistance afterward.
You can also use to avoid dangerous burst.
And if they activate a powerful offensive ability, you might want to use defensively instead of continuing to trade damage.
Against Ranged Kiters
Against ranged opponents, the biggest challenge is staying close enough to deal damage.
We have excellent mobility, but you still need to use it properly.
For example, you can approach with .
If they activate their boots, respond with or .
Once they're closer, you can use to catch them and start attacking.
However, don't activate while your opponent is still far away.
You want to make sure they're close enough that you can get value from its damage.
Against Burst Builds
Against weapons with dangerous burst combinations, is extremely useful.
The damage immunity during your leap allows you to avoid incoming damage if you time it correctly.
However, experienced opponents might recognize what you're doing and wait until you land.
That's why you shouldn't use randomly.
Try to understand which ability deals most of their damage.
Then save your E for that moment when possible.
can also help by providing additional damage resistance if you're hit during the dash.
Against Damage Reflection
Be particularly careful against damage reflection.
Since this build relies on repeated normal attacks and , attacking into reflection can become very dangerous.
For example, if your opponent activates with , you might end up taking considerable reflected damage.
You can use or to create distance until their reflection expires.
Don't continue attacking simply because is active.
Sometimes stopping your damage for a few seconds is the correct decision.
Against Healing Builds
Healing builds can be difficult because doesn't have any healing reduction in the default setup.
You can deal a lot of damage with and your normal attacks, but some opponents might recover most of it.
Try to get as much value as possible from your damage window.
You can also use to interrupt important healing casts when possible.
However, if your opponent is consistently recovering more Health than you're dealing, don't force the fight.
This build is much better at taking favorable engagements than winning every prolonged brawl.
Against Highly Mobile Builds
These matchups are all about managing your movement abilities.
Even though has excellent mobility, you can still struggle against someone who repeatedly dashes away.
Try to make them use their movement first.
Then respond with , , or .
If you're confident they'll stay close afterward, you can commit and activate .
But if they're still holding several escapes, using E might waste your best damage opportunity.
6. PvE and Mists Roaming Tips
is also capable of clearing solo PvE.
You have area damage from and , while makes clearing groups considerably easier.
However, this particular setup is mainly designed around PvP.
That's why some alternative abilities can be better when you want to focus on clearing mobs.
Clearing Groups of Mobs
Here's how I recommend approaching regular mob packs.
| Step | What to Do | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Group several mobs together | Maximize area damage |
| 2 | Use | Damage enemies and reposition |
| 3 | Activate | Deal repeated damage to nearby mobs |
| 4 | Use when necessary | Deal area damage and activate |
| 5 | Continue normal attacking | Benefit from attack speed and |
| 6 | Use | Recover Energy and absorb damage |
You don't need to use against every weak mob.
Sometimes and are enough.
And since has a long cooldown, you might want to keep it available if you're expecting PvP.
Alternative Q Abilities for PvE
is excellent for mobility, but it's not necessarily the fastest Q for every PvE situation.
You can consider switching depending on what you're fighting.
| Q Ability | Best Use |
|---|---|
| Default roaming, PvP, and mobility | |
| Area damage against grouped mobs | |
| Direct damage and an additional stun |
Whirling Strikes
deals repeated area damage around your character while channeling.
It can be useful against groups of mobs because you're able to damage several enemies at once.
However, you're giving up 's mobility.
For general Mists roaming, I recommend keeping selected.
But if you're mainly clearing mobs and don't expect to fight another player immediately, can be a good option.
Concussive Combo
is another option that gives you direct damage and a stun.
It can be useful against single targets or when you want more crowd control.
However, it doesn't provide the same mobility as .
And for this particular build, mobility is one of our biggest advantages.
That's why I would keep for most PvP situations.
Alternative W Abilities
There are also a few W abilities worth considering.
| W Ability | Best Use |
|---|---|
| Default chasing, movement, and stun | |
| Additional damage and auto attack bonuses | |
| Damage reduction and disruption against aggressive opponents | |
| Rooting a target and knocking other enemies away |
Gale Dance
is a more aggressive option.
It allows you to attack several times in a targeted direction.
If you hit an enemy with all three attacks, you gain additional movement speed and normal attack damage.
This can be useful when you want more damage instead of the stun from .
However, getting all three hits against a mobile opponent can be difficult.
And you're giving up one of your most reliable chasing abilities.
Personally, I'd keep for general roaming.
Forceful Swing
is another useful option against certain melee opponents.
It knocks enemies away and reduces the damage they deal.
It also disrupts normal attack pressure, making it useful against auto attack focused builds.
However, you're losing the mobility and stun from .
I'd mainly consider for specific matchups rather than using it as my default.
Don't Waste All Your Cooldowns on Mobs
Since we're playing in the Mists, we always need to consider other players.
For example, if , , , and are all unavailable when another player approaches, escaping becomes much harder.
Try to keep at least one movement ability available whenever possible.
And if another player approaches while you're clearing a camp, inspect their equipment before committing to a fight.
There's no reason to fight someone who's considerably stronger than you just because they're nearby.
Playing With an Item Power Advantage
This is one of the most important things about this particular build.
becomes especially dangerous when your damage and defensive stats are higher than your opponent's.
You can stay close, deal damage with , and survive enough of their counterattack to keep pressuring them.
However, against someone with equal or higher Item Power, the fight can be very different.
Some dedicated brawling builds might deal more damage or recover more Health than you.
And if they know how to counter your crowd control, your mobility advantage might not be enough.
Don't confuse having excellent mobility with automatically winning every fight.
Use that mobility to find favorable opportunities.
7. Common Beginner Mistakes
| Mistake | What You Should Do Instead |
|---|---|
| Using constantly without a reason | Save Energy and use it for meaningful movement or defense |
| Forgetting 's resistance bonus | Try to time it around incoming damage |
| Using and immediately wasting the stun | Decide whether you need the movement or crowd control |
| Activating too early | Force enemy mobility first whenever possible |
| Forgetting | Take advantage of the attack speed bonus after E |
| Expecting on every E | Check whether your cape is off cooldown |
| Using too far away | Get close before activating it |
| Knocking enemies out of | Pay attention to 's direction |
| Ignoring normal attacks | Use them to benefit from and |
| Forgetting | Recover Energy before it becomes a problem |
| Using every mobility ability at once | Save something for chasing or escaping |
| Attacking into damage reflection | Stop attacking until the reflection ends |
| Taking unfavorable IP fights | Use your mobility to choose better engagements |
| Depending entirely on | Use Healing Potions and avoid unnecessary damage |
8. Final Tips
Don't spam without a reason. Its mobility is excellent, but the increased Energy cost means you need to pay attention to your resources.
Use defensively when necessary. Taking damage during the dash gives you additional resistance afterward.
Make your count. You can use it to chase or escape, but your empowered normal attack is also an important crowd control tool.
Time properly. Its damage and crowd control immunity make it useful offensively, while its temporary damage immunity can save you against dangerous burst.
Take advantage of . The attack speed bonus after using E is one of the most important parts of your damage.
Keep attacking when it's safe. Normal attacks aren't just additional damage. They also provide healing through .
Use when you can stay close. If your opponent immediately escapes, you'll lose most of its damage.
Don't knock enemies away unnecessarily. 's knockback can work against you if you're trying to keep someone inside .
Use properly. can consume quite a bit of Energy during longer fights, especially after the nerf.
Carry Healing Potions. is useful, but it isn't enough to sustain every fight on its own.
Don't use all your mobility to engage. Keep at least one ability available in case you need to chase or escape.
Remember that this is an Item Power advantage setup. It can be extremely strong against lower IP players, but you're not going to win every fair 1v1 simply because you're using .
Overall, is a really fun weapon for solo Mists if you enjoy playing aggressively while still having enough mobility to control your engagements.
You have excellent crowd control, several ways to reposition, and good damage when you combine with and normal attacks.
However, the build becomes considerably stronger when you have an Item Power advantage.
The biggest thing you need to learn is when to commit , how to manage your mobility, and how to keep your opponent close enough to benefit from and .
Once you get comfortable with those mechanics, can be an excellent weapon for aggressive solo Mists roaming.
